Through their individual and collective energy and talent, the staff and volunteers of the Museum of Discovery and Science provide pathways to learning and enjoyment to visitors of all ages.
The Museum offers a dynamic and enriching environment to work in and to volunteer. Opportunities vary, and the following brief descriptions provide insight into available positions. Annual Giving Manager - Full Time Exempt
The Museum of Discovery and Science is a much loved and key feature of downtown Fort Lauderdale providing experiential pathways to lifelong learning in science for children and adults through exhibits, programs and films. Within its 119,000 square feet of interior space are the 300-seat AutoNation IMAX Theater, dynamic interactive exhibits in the natural and physical sciences, classrooms, labs, café and museum store. The museum complex also features an open-air grand atrium and a fenced green space on Broward Boulevard slated for development as a Science Park.
Reporting to the VP Development the Annual Giving Manager is responsible for assisting with the planning and execution of a full spectrum of development activities including coordinating face-to-face, phone, direct-mail and digital annual giving initiates and exhibit, film and special event sponsorship; conducting analysis of donor data as well as the effectiveness of appeals; and supporting the VP of Development with the engagement/enhancement of individual and corporate relationships as well as prospect research/donor data management, all to meet target fundraising goals and advance the mission of MODS. Bachelor’s Degree in a discipline that complements the skills and professional expertise utilized in an active fundraising environment; 5+ years in a fundraising capacity with increasing responsibility and a proven track record of success; CFRE a plus; familiarity with fundraising software; experience working with donors; outstanding verbal and written skills; mature and responsible with an ability to achieve annual goals and meet deadlines; demonstrated ability to cooperate and work collaboratively in teams across the organization while participating in high-level decision-making; ability to work in a fast-paced, complex environment with frequently changing priorities.
PART TIME EDUCATOR - LEVEL 1 - PART TIME
Bachelors degree, previous customer service and teaching experience. Good communications skills and the, ability to speak before large audiences.
Attention to safety techniques, effectively able to control crowds. The ability to work under pressure and constantly changing conditions. Ability to stand for
long periods of time. Must be available to work holidays, weekends and evenings. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide excellent customer service to all museum visitors.
- Teach/conduct school, public and youth programs including camps, camp-ins and birthday parties. Will also be responsible for delivering theater shows.
- Interact with Museum visitors on a daily basis by demonstrating the concepts behind the Museum exhibits.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance and a car to deliver outreach programs to schools and various locations.
- Learn how to handle animals by taking and passing all levels of the animal handling training program (level 1-6).
- Operate the MaxFlight, Airboat Adventure and the Mars Rover on a daily basis.
- Greet school and recreation groups throughout the year.
- Deliver formal and informal Science Café programs on a daily basis.
